One of the favorite themes amongst friends is the Luau party theme. When you do Luau party planning, there is much color and fun, food and amazing, and the awesome entertainment making it more memorable.
Choose from many personalized luau invitations with bright designs. You can show your creativity by including a lei in the invitation. Lei is a flower arrangement consist of a circular band of flowers or foliage. If you decide to have leis, opt for fresh flowers. Orchids are expensive to decorate so carnation would be a good alternative. Also, include in the invitation that they have to wear a luau costume like Hawaiian prints, aloha shirts for men, grass skirts for ladies, and rubber flip-flops.
Decorate with luau banner and you can put tiki torches or tropical lights on the front of your place. Coconut cups, pineapple plates, bamboo reeds, palm fronds, hanging lights, seashells and fishnets are the some of the decorations for a luau theme party. Add island music as background music to add a luau atmosphere at your place. You can also have a luau life-sized cardboard cutout where anybody can stand behind it and have a photo op. If you have a backyard, do not neglect them and put some decorations on it too. Anytime you can expand your party outside the house. Tropical or multi-color lantern lights might be nice at the backyard. Do not forget to use tropical colors on tablecloths like yellow, green, hot pink, melon, orange and bright blue. Add your own seashells, maracas and sand. Another great idea is to use piñatas as your centerpieces or if you prefer, hang them above the tables. You can have bowls filled with rocks and tealights as centerpieces would be good too.
For games, you can have a hula hoop contest and see who’s keeping the hoop for the longest time or who can master it circling around the neck or knees. Wrap up the party with the last game of limbo for all the guests. For entertainment, Poi and Hula dancers would be perfect for the party.
The food served is the difference between a beach and luau themed party. The food consists of roasted pig, skewers of fruit and flamed cooked veggies. It is also the assortment of island-inspired appetizers like fried chicken, lumpia (Filipino-style pork or egg rolls), chicken or beef teriyaki, sushi, Korean-style BBQ ribs (kalbi), Ahi poke (raw fish and seaweed), fresh fruits, veggies, and steamed white rice. Salads such as macaroni and potato are nice compliment of the variety of foods. It is best served on banana-leaf lined plates.
Made up drinks is one of the inspirations of a Luau party. As long as you can mix the fruits and rum with the drinks, all is set for the party. Fruits that can be concoctions are apples, oranges, mangoes, and pineapples.
